The challenge: build and race a steam-powered car round three laps of a grand prix circuit.

Each team's steam car must carry all four members round three laps of the Scrapheap grand prix circuit at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu in Hampshire. They could build a high-speed, lightweight machine that would carry them round singly or in pairs. Or they can go for a bigger, slower version that will get them all round together.
