The challenge: to build a vehicle that can carry two people around an underwater obstacle course.

The submariners will be wearing scuba-diving gear and the underwater obstacle course is off Gosport, near Portsmouth. The winner is whoever incurs the fewest penalty points in negotiating a complex course of gates – it’s a kind of underwater show-jumping for mechanical sea-horses! The challenge is not about speed but all about manoeuvrability. Solutions might include a James Bond 'sit-on torpedo'-type of chariot or vectored motor(s) attached to a frame that also carries the crew.
