| The Challenge To mark the 200 years since Richard Trevithick invented the railway steam locomotive, this week three teams must build locomotives capable of pulling a 30-tonne passenger coach. The teams come from the three ages of the railway … steam, diesel and electric. |

The Nutcrackers (Electric) Andrew Coomber (Mr C), Steve Hall and Dean Pitman work at Marcroft Engineering in Somerset, the UK's largest independent rail maintenance service. They repair, refit and construct coaches/wagons and reckon this will give them a huge advantage. Steve and Dean are laid back, amenable and here for a good time but their skipper is a fiercely competitive triathlete, making The Nutcrackers a force to be reckoned with. Their expert is Nick Bell, who's familiar to Scrapheap viewers. He works for Severn Lamb, which supplies battery-driven and electric trains to theme parks all over the world. Nick also designed battery-driven vehicles for the Athens Olympics. |

In Training (Diesel) Captain Peter Briddon and friend Ian Newbold work for RMS Locotec – an industrial railway engineering company and have a wealth of experience working on locos. The passion for trains has been passed down to the third team member, Peter's son Andrew Briddon, who is 17 and owns 12 diesel locomotives which he rents out and restores while completing his A-levels. Joining them is Dave Yates, who works for Bombardier Transportation, which makes and services locomotives. Dave worked on the new Virgin Voyager and Midland Mainline trains and is restoring an ex-British Rail diesel in his spare time. He's also a black belt in Taekwondo so the team had better watch their step! |

The Clagsters (Steam) Richard Vincent (Turbo), Andrew Reeves and Geoffrey Garrett are a bunch of steam-loving mates from Somerset. Richard is no stranger to Scrapheap having been the Cat-alysts' expert on Juggernauts in our Grand Final. The Clagsters are all-round steam-engine-lovers and restorers who also have experience of working with diesel engines and tractor units. As they happily admit, they have far too much to say for themselves and are here for the glory of steam. They've got bags of character and experience to match. Their expert is Richard Gibbon OBE who has being involved in steam engineering for years. He headed up the engineering side of the National Railway Museum and is now working on the UK's largest steam engine, the Trencher field Mill engine at Wigan. |

The judge Our judge is Nick Pigott, the editor of The Railway Magazine, Britain's best-selling rail title. Published continuously since 1897, it is part of railway history itself and is seen as authoritative by professionals and enthusiasts alike. The magazine covers all aspects of the railways. Nick has been obsessed with railways since he was a child and was a volunteer fireman on the Poppy Line, a steam heritage railway in Norfolk, for years. He says being editor of The Railway Magazine is his dream job. |
