How old do you have to be to compete on Scrapheap Challenge?
According to our insurers, you must be at least 18 years of age when filming begins. You can apply as a 17-year-old as long as you will turn 18 by shooting date – usually about two months after the deadline for applications.
How long will I need to take off work?
For each episode you win through to, you will need to be able to take about three or four days off work. Your next episode may not be the next consecutive week though, so if you are an excellent engineer, you must also have an understanding boss. Fortunately, nine out of ten bosses surveyed love Scrapheap Challenge and will be thrilled to give you the amount of leave that you need.
I can't get my hands on a video recorder, can I still apply?
Unfortunately, we have got to be able to see what you are like on camera. If you really want to be on Scrapheap, you've got to find a way!!
What skills do I need to have?
We like a broad range of skills, but good mechanical engineering knowledge and welding ability are most important.
