Chat Ed : Hello and welcome to tonight's live SALVAGE SQUAD chat with CLAIRE BARRATT and LEE HURST.
Claire Barratt : Hello.
Lee Hurst : And hello from me. Can I just say thank you to all of you in here who are favouring me over watching Victoria Beckham.
cloe : hellooooooooooo
Hot Girl OnThe Loose : hello from me 2
JONATHAN : hello
Pounder : In theory, if a cat always lands on its feet and a piece of toast lands butter side up, so if you tie a piece of toast to a cat, it should never touch the floor but keep spinning, so if you attach the toast and cat to a car it should levitate, do you agree?
Lee Hurst laughs
Claire Barratt : I'd be a rich girl if I could find a solution to perpetual motion.
Lee Hurst : You haven't established whether the toast was butter side to the cat or butter side out, Pounder, so I don't know what effect that would have. And...get help! And stay away from cats!
Joanna : Do you actually have all those moments like when jerry gets in a mood and kicks something is that put on?
Claire Barratt : No, I'm afraid not.
Lee Hurst : Absolutely not. There was one bit that they cut when Axel threw a brick at me. Admittedly I did hit him on the head first and then run.
Claire Barratt : They censored my language in tonight's show.
joe : is it true you are restoring a tiger moth aircraft?
Claire Barratt : It's a Gipsy Moth. It's wonderful to fly in.
Lee Hurst : That will be shown in 3 weeks. It will be the racing car, then the barge and then the moth.
bekki : My husband bought a Stalwart 6 years ago, it was a terrible mess. It is still in our driveway annoying the neighbours, please can you help him finish the **** thing ?
Claire Barratt : I'm sure tonight's programme brought back many memories.
Lee Hurst : Tape it and use it as a workshop manual.
pds : Were the Stoly's propulsion system's pre-ordered? They looked like new parts
Claire Barratt : No, they weren't.
Dillinger : how hard was it to find a new screen for the car, and how anoyed where you when he said it wasnt good enough
Lee Hurst : It was very expensive and it was a bit annoying when he didn't want the one with the slight chip in it. I didn't think it was enough to fail an M.O.T.
dan_lincolnshire : do you know where i can buy a ex-army vehicle?
Claire Barratt laughs
Lee Hurst : There's an ex-butcher called Nick in Luton, if you ask for Nick, in that area, I'm sure you'll be guided to him!
Claire Barratt : Magazines and the internet are brilliant.
Stu : Don't you think most of the owners are completely mad ?
Lee Hurst : Erm...yes.
Lee Hurst laughs
Lee Hurst : No, eccentric.
Claire Barratt : Yes, that's kinder.
Lee Hurst : And nearer to the truth as well.
Russell : when you restored the fire truck, why was it made out of wood it seems like a funny thing to make it out of
Claire Barratt : They made them out of wood right up until the 90s.
Lee Hurst : That's when they moved over to solid petrol, to save the rainforest.
Claire Barratt : Axel sometimes is just too full of personality.
Lee Hurst chuckles
Lee Hurst : The Formula 5000 car was tough.
Claire Barratt : It was like polishing a turd.
Lee Hurst : Yeah, I wouldn't have minded if I'd had a cloth!
Lee Hurst : Mine would be the tank.
Lee Hurst : The Lola and the Auto Gyro were tough ones. We missed the Duxford show on the Auto Gyro and next week you'll see we had problems with the Lola.
Claire Barratt : My Mum is missing EastEnders for this.
Lee Hurst sings "She was a showgirl! With yellow feathers in her hair..."
Lee Hurst : And I shout at the TV going 'Hmmm it looks like I did a lot more than I did!'
Claire Barratt : I'd like a big stationary steam engine and a water mill.
Claire Barratt : I've got the registration here actually for the Stoly, I've just found it. It was 18 EB 03.
Lee Hurst : I thought we were just talking about the show! You can answer that Claire...
Claire Barratt : No, never!
Claire Barratt : Thanks and goodbye. Next week it is the Lola racing car. Graphical version of this page
Lee Hurst laughs
Ben : Its a bit of a change for you to do a show like this Lee, why did you choose to do it?
Lee Hurst : Is that Major Ben?? It was because I got to have a go on a tank so I couldn't resist.
wolly mamouth : how come all the people that you do these tasks for, never get on with axle?
Lee Hurst : Claire.... is that the case? Is there some friction there Claire?
Lee Hurst : And Claire is running for Mayor in...>
Russell : To everyone :what was the hardest restoration and why
Claire Barratt : The Stoly kept breaking down; everything you touched you found another fault.
Julian : How would you like to have a go at an army truck of which there are less than 14 surviving examples! I have one! How do I find out about applying?
Claire Barratt : Apply through the Salvage Squad forum, so put a message on there and if we like the sound of it we'll get in contact.
David Reed : Is there any restoration's that you have had to turn down, and if so why?
Lee Hurst : The wobbly bridge over the River Thames. JOKE!
David Reed : lol
Lee Hurst : Lots really. The Titanic was tough. We're waiting on global warming to evaporate the Atlantic; I'm spraying some aerosol as we speak.
timetec : Claire, you are every man's dream.. a woman keen on the restoration and repair of engines and all things mechanical - have you always been interested in this sort of thing ?
Claire Barratt : It started off with Lego and on Sunday I was running an 1875 Beam engine.
jane : which of the vehicles would you most like to take home?
Claire Barratt : The Steam Launch. Everyone's your friend when you've got a steam launch.
mark middleton : how do you keep your tempers when things go wrong and the ower has a moan
Lee Hurst : We send Jerry out to kick something.
Joanna : Do you go over the time limit when you are reapiairing the machines?
Claire Barratt : We cut it fine.
lewis : my mum says thanks for a brill prog that keeps me quiet 4 a whole hour!!!!!!!
Lee Hurst chuckles
Andy : what is a Lola?
Claire Barratt : A racing car.
Pete in Ireland : how come you never flew in the autogyro
Lee Hurst : Because I'm a scaredy-cat and, as I've said to the squad, 'risk-free' is my middle name. There's enough on this earth that can kill you so I don't see the need in making an appointment.
rustyspanner : A lot of the programme seems to be a painting exersise,is this due to time limits?Would you like more technical content?
Claire Barratt : A lot is filmed that isn't shown and I shout at the TV when I'm watching it, going 'I did more than that!'
sc : any ideas for porjects you'd like to attempt but haven't been offered yet?
Lee Hurst : I would like a Harrier Jump jet, a two seater, or a Spitfire. Then I would have a go.
Iain : What a brilliant prog this evening on the Stalwart - it am sure it was one of my vehicles when I was in 2nd Field Regt. I am now frantically looking for a picture of it - and what is more I'm pretty sure we did swim that one. Can you confirm regn was 18 ES 03.
Lee Hurst : Who's Reg?
Lee Hurst laughs
Chat Ed : Our half hour with Claire and Lee is nearly up now, so last three questions now, thanks...
peter : is lee annoying when you are tired and sweaty
Claire Barratt laughs
Claire Barratt lies
Marcus : Do you know if there will be another series?
Lee Hurst : It's in the laps of the Gods, the powers that be.
Mel : Are you allowed to talk about future projects?? Or is it a secret!!
Lee Hurst : We don't know if there's a future yet!
Chat Ed : That's it! Thanks for that Claire and Lee, great stuff! Thanks for joining us tonight everyone.
Russell : been nice talking se ya
jed : see yo all
JONATHAN : nice talking se ya
Cloudy : byeee
