David Hesketh is the manager of the Rewind & Repair division of Bowers. He started out as an apprentice armature winder and has worked with electric motors all over the world for over 30 years.
Bowers specialise in the rewind of electric motors for power stations, steel works and oil and textiles plants. However, despite all their experience, the VAMBAC unit was a difficult challenge. David says it was 'one of the trickiest things we've ever had to deal with'. As he had no instruction book or plans, he had to work everything out from scratch.
Luckily David is a tram enthusiast, so he enjoyed getting to grips with the VAMBAC. He is now an acknowledged tram expert and has worked on other historic trams for Blackpool Transport and the tramway museum at Crich.
He has not yet had a ride along the promenade in the tram but is looking forward to taking a trip to Blackpool in the summer.
