The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) orbits earth at a height of only around 600 kilometers, yet it has taken some of the most beautiful and spectacular images we have of galaxies and stars. Three types of camera and various techniques, including filters, collage or tiling are used to build up an accurate representation of objects and events often many light years away. They remain some of the most awe-inspiring images our culture has produced.
More information on these images and many other examples can be found in the ‘Great Images in NASA’ website, GRIN
