In the early 1980s, Michael Green and John Schwarz began working on string theory. They alone believed strings would help with the problem of gravity. It is a radically different way of looking at our universe. It predicts that all particles and forces of nature, including gravity, are little vibrating string-like objects. Particles are different because of the different ways in which the string vibrate – like the notes on a guitar. |
