Mars Attacks! (1996)

Big-eyed green Martians rocket across space to invade earth. Any attempts to reason with them are futile. Hilarious spoof.

Apollo 13 (1995)
Directed by Ron Howard.
True story of the Apollo 13 mission in 1970, which went wrong when the main oxygen storage tank blew up, forcing the three astronauts to return.

Total Recall (1990)
Directed by Paul Verhoeven.
Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is haunted every night by the same dream: a journey to Mars. In his quest to find out more, he ends up fighting an evil Martian.

Planet of Blood (1966)

An expedition to Mars finds a crashed alien space ship. They bring back the only survivor: a green-skinned, bloodsucking female alien.

Mars Needs Women (1966)
Directed by Larry Buchanan.
Due to a shortage on their own planet, Martians are led on an interplanetary quest for women to continue the colonisation of Mars.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964)
Directed by Nicholas Webster.
Santa Claus is captured by Martians to stop Earth children from enjoying Christmas.

The Angry Red Planet (1959)
Directed by Ib Melchior.
Astronauts land on Mars, and battle against aliens, giant amoebas and huge mutated creatures. Pink tints are used to create Martian atmosphere.

The War of the Worlds (1953)
Directed by Byron Haskins.
Film Adaptation of HG Wells's classic novel. Made at the height of the Cold War, and set in a small town, it played on the Americans' fear of invasion.

Flight to Mars (1951)
Directed by Lesley Selander.
A team of scientists and a newspaper reporter fly to Mars only to find that Martians look identical to humans.

Rocketship X-M (1950)
Directed by Kurt Newmann.
Five astronauts set off to explore the moon but end up on Mars. They find evidence of an advanced civilisation destroyed by an atomic holocaust.
