Seven finalists and seven reserves have battled it out at the regional FameLab heats and are now on the road to the grand FameLab final at the Cheltenham Science Festival on 9 June. As part of their journey the finalists attended a media master-class to learn about communication and presentation skills. Now YOU have the chance to determine which hopeful science presenter will win the podcast and vodcast challenges. The lucky winners will be presented with special awards at Cheltenham.
Thanks to everyone who sent in suggested topics for the podcast challenge. The finalists and reserves have been given the overall theme ‘challenging received wisdom and orthodoxy in science’ to explore one of the following topics:
1) The environmental impact of renewable energy
2) A future with Robots
3) How far can/should we travel into space?
4) Is medicine derailing the process of survival of the fittest?
5) Should we trust statistics?
6) The future for air travel
7) Is our obsession with hygiene and cleanliness causing chemical chaos?
8) Genetic modification
As video presentation requires additional skills to audio broadcasts we wanted to push the master-class attendees to the limit. Watch the video efforts of our ‘lucky 14’ tackling a subject of their choice and decide if they have what it takes. Did they wow you with charismatic presentations and make science come to life or did 59 seconds feel more like 59 minutes?
