The Challenge Over eight weeks, the challengers set out to solve the case of The Strangler in the Copse, prompted along the way by selecting the right line of questioning, and the promise of £700 worth of books up for grabs for the most dogged seekers after the truth. Starting from the discovery of a woman's body, and working from the basic facts, there were four possible questions to ask to test those hunches and powers of detection. Only one of the four questions has an answer that would aid the investigation though. In each of the following weeks, the correct question was revealed, adding the next piece to the crime jigsaw. More information moved the investigation on, leading to another decision on the next line of enquiry until the murderer was revealed. Have a look at the case history! The winners, who each received a £70 selection of books, were the first 10 entrants who selected the highest number of correct questions. In the event, no-one asked all seven questions correctly. Cherry Archer, Chris Bull, Esther Geary, Hayley Conick, Jet Judson, Karen Foster and Janette Palmer all got five questions right, while Neil, Sinéad O'Reilly and Tracey Bowman-Dredge were the first to ask four correct questions. The winners have been notified by e-mail. Channel 4’s decision is final. In keeping with the crime theme, the prizes are recent books on the subject: Unsolved Victorian Murders by Jonathan Sutherland, Women who Shocked the Nation by Diane Canwell, The Casebook of Forensic Detection by Colin Evans, Adam and Eve and Pinch Me by Ruth Rendell, Burke and Hare: The year of the ghouls by Brian Bailey, Acid Row by Minette Walters and Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper case closed by Patricia Cornwell.
