Air has less oxygen in it at high altitudes. Engines need oxygen to burn fuel and they need to be more powerful when flying at altitude to compensate for the lack of oxygen. Up until now no-one has been able to design an engine that is both small and powerful enough to get above the 4572-metre mark. |
