Careers in Emergency Medicine

There's a diverse choice of paths to take if you fancy working in emergency medicine. At all levels though, emergency medicine differs from other forms of medicine in that its main focus is on diagnosing and treating serious illness or injuries that require immediate attention.

In the simplest terms, the goal is to not so much to cure a patient but rather to keep them alive, reduce their discomfort or prevent their condition from worsening. Whether it's someone who has suffered a heart attack, is having trouble breathing or is losing blood, the treatment they initially receive can make a huge difference to their survival or ongoing health.
