Interview with Jim Sweeney

When Jim is injured whilst climbing in Alaska he is dependant on his friend David for help. Somehow, they survive the sub-zero temperatures and avalanches.

Age: 50

Occupation: Writer

Do you think it was largely mental attitude that got you and Dave out of there alive?

No, I think our number wasn't up and we were lucky.

How long did it take for you to recover, physically and mentally?

My hip was dislocated for eight days and I expected to have a hip replacement by now but I'm limping along until it hurts so bad I have to get it replaced.

Has the experience changed you?

Turned me into a sex pervert. No, only joking.

How often do you think about it?

Sex or the climb?

How has the experience affected your relationship with Dave?

Sorta.

Do you still climb? Do you still go on adventures with Dave?

I still climb. I've only done one climb with Dave in five years, maybe 10. He's busy with his family.

Have you been back to Alaska since then?

I live here.

Do you have any advice for anyone who would like to climb in the wilder parts of the world?

Have fun.
