Terror on Crocodile Island
Alistair and Clive manage to scrabble on top of the upturned boat but Brenda, Faye and Arthur get separated from the boat by a strong current. This was a disaster. They could see crocs on the banks and were just waiting for one of them to disappear under.
Brenda, Faye and Arthur swim to a sand bank in the middle of the river that they stand on in shallow water. This protects them, somewhat, from croc attack. Their only option now is to wait for a passing boat. Swimming to the bank for help is sure suicide.
Alistair, who is a-top a sinking boat, decides to swim for shore anyway. In this remote region they could wait for passing boats for hours and hours. Hearts in mouths, the party watch him. He swims out of sight.
Just as he reaches the bank Alistair is grabbed by a croc. He manages to fight it off at first, but it returns and clamps onto his left arm. The croc pulls him into a death roll. It twists him round and round underwater to drown him. Alistair has just enough wit and strength left to reach into the back of the crocs mouth with his right hand and grab the flap that stops water from pouring into its lungs. The croc immediately lets him go.
His arm is broken and badly bleeding and his shoulder is dislocated. He struggles into the shade of a tree and lies down in agony. He calls to the others and tells them he has been hurt by a croc. The psychological effect on them is devastating.
