Hiking out

| Back | Next | |
The next morning, dawn reveals a desolate, snowy wilderness. They had driven off the road on to a dirt track and are in the middle of a wildlife park. Every attempt to dig the truck out of the snow was thwarted by the wind which blew it right back. They decided to stay put and await help. Surely someone would pass by. A second night passed and still they believed that help would soon arrive. Then New Year's Eve came and went. Not a soul in sight. On day four, Jim and Jennifer lost hope of rescue. They decided that they must attempt the 20-mile hike to the nearest highway. Early the following morning, they donned all their clothes, wrapped Clayton in two sleeping bags and zipped him into a suit bag. Unequipped for hiking in such conditions, and without a compass, the family set off through deep snow. |
