Without any warning, the sails flap uselessly and the catamaran slows to a halt. The wind has disappeared. Mark, the most experienced sailor, is aware that the winds in this area are unpredictable.

The cousins sit and enjoy the quiet for while. The day gets hotter and Rob puts his feet in the water to cool off. Mark warns him against it: the Sea of Cortez is famous for the shoals of hundreds of hammer sharks that regularly move through it.
