Sunrise Radio UK
Sunrise Radio UK will be a full-service music station for the UK’s two million-strong Asian community, providing many of them with a commercial alternative to the BBC for the first time.
It will be music-led, playing classic and current Bollywood and Bhangra hits and remixes, as well as some more specialised music including Ghazals and Qawalis. Its programming will provide a high level of listener interaction through requests, dedications and competitions.
The amount of speech content will vary between shows and parts of the day, but overall it will account for at least 15% of programme output. There will generally be more speech at peak listening times and daytime generally, and slightly less in off-peak periods.
Speech content will be built around a core of news, comprising a comprehensive UK news service, which covers domestic stories from an Asian perspective, as well as international news coverage from the sub-continent and beyond. Other speech features will include features and discussions on topics relevant to the audience, and information to support the music output.
