Channel 4 Radio

Channel 4 Radio will be a contemporary speech station with public service values infusing a blend of lively debate and entertainment. It will be driven by intelligent, informed and often provocative opinion and conversation. It will challenge convention and contribute to shaping and reflecting British society.

In the same way as Channel 4 Television has always exceeded its public service remit and constantly sought to refresh it for the benefit of the audience, Channel 4 Radio will bring a new public service to radio.

News and current affairs will be at the heart of Channel 4 Radio. It will have access to one of the best resourced news services in British commercial radio, bringing the trusted and acclaimed values of Channel 4 News to radio audiences for the first time. News coverage will give prominence to international events and, compared with existing news services, it will aim to draw on informed and expert opinion from a much wider variety of sources, with an emphasis on communities under-represented on radio today.

Channel 4 Radio will be challenging and open-minded. It will primarily target 30 to 54 year olds but, as an innovative and contemporary service, it will define its target audience more by attitude than by demographic. It will work with the best independent production companies to showcase a range of voices to represent the UK's rich diversity of communities, regions and lifestyles.

Channel 4 Radio will offer a vibrant mix of programming from current affairs and news to comedy, drama, documentary and lifestyle, all delivered with intelligence, irreverence and humour. It will be a station with attitude, offering fresh perspectives on the world, driven by an independence of thought and instilled with the Channel 4 spirit of risk-taking.

Channel 4 Radio will bring contemporary speech radio to new audiences and will aim to fuel debate, rally the public and stimulate change.
