Who You Callin' a Nigger?

Series 1 | Episode 1 | Who You Callin' a Nigger?

Darcus Howe

In 2004 Darcus Howe investigated the changing face of racial politics in Britain, predicting trouble ahead for Britain's ethnic population. In this authored film, he travelled the country expressing his views on a netherworld of unreported violence and prejudice, not between blacks and whites, but between Britain's increasingly divided ethnic minority groups.

  1. I have been digesting a vast amount of Darcus Howe recently and understand his plight, but also recognise that the evolution of U.K culture now leaves him naturally dated and this is one of the revelations this programme presents...I would truly love to be his Archangel in his mission. My name is Marc Compton; I am a middle aged Black man also of Trinidad descent with a degree in Psychology and direct links to the diverse community in Newham (the most diverse borough in the U.K), I am also an Artist with plantings in graphics, poetry and music, plus I have worked with gangs, often specific to culture and religion and conducted peace talks across the ethnic groupings...plus would have been able to illustrate the dynamics of this programme in one borough! I would greatly appreciate any contact details you have for Darcus, so that we may initiate a meeting and maybe future projects.

  12. Come on Channel4od upload this documentry so people that missed it and want to see it can overstand what their peers the people who did see it are talking about. I was one of the lucky ones who did watch it. But airing at 11.20pm on Thursday then Friday morning at 2.30 isn't cutting it. Most people will not be up at 2.30 as most people have to go take their children to school and go to work. So channel 4 we suggest that this programme be avaliable for others to see. Thank You

  18. Me i personally respect and admire Darcus Howe for being such a big corouges man and he truly represents that asian and black use to live and work along every day becuz when he was taliking about west indians helping pakistani, or any asians finding work back in the days he reminded me what my uncles or grandfathers say which is true. i think west indians have led and breakawy the way for us asians in Britain. If you look at it many asian youth to get inspire by the West Indian or black culture from either to music or street fashion. Personally my self (pakistani) i have grown up with Alot of west indians, we grown up togeather, paying cricket, listen to each others music respect each cultures, religion, and food of spices that we share alot are the same.like curry, roti, rice... probably the lage influx of East Indians in carribbeans. i think we asian and black people are people of the British Empire, this empire has brought us from everywhere whther in asia, africa or carribeans. its the cruel british theory thats in our minds the divide and rule. the results of Partition of India 1947. New Pakistan for muslims & India for Hindus. it s effects shows it within the former colonial people and their kids. alot becuz if you look at it all the inner cites in Britain West Indians and asians live in the same areas. And yes when i saw the trouble of asians and black youths it comes turf wars. for example when our parents or grandparents came here they had no time be act hard and fight for turf wars. they worked and paved the way thru for us to have an easy life now. probabaly this generation of immigrants kids take advantage of that. but i think that we asians and black people are in the same boat in Britain, in racial discriminiation, etc. you might see that what united us was thae recent BNP or the EDL Race Rows riots, where i saw alot asians muslims and blacks, west indian youths were togather in Birmingham and Harrow fighting against the Racial BNP group. I think the only people are mostly or racially deprived are Muslim Pakistani, Bengali and Blacks West Indian youths. becauz we always be on T.V and be talked about, than the rest of the white or Indian popluation. i see where Darcus Howe point of view comes from and i think people should try to understand him. Peace
