As a former church minister and prison governor, Ray set up Eastside Young Leaders' Academy (EYLA) in 2002 after being inspired by a similar programme in America.
EYLA deals with young African and Caribbean males who are at risk of exclusion from the education system.
Ray also mentors older subjects, part of which includes helping them to get into apprenticeships and training.
Ray's philosophy is that of tough love, which he believes is the only way of tackling the most difficult individuals who come through his door.
In June this year, Ray accepted invitation to be London's Gang Tsar by Mayor Boris Johnson.
