Dr Elmer Mejia features in Honduras: Diving into Danger which highlights those who risk their life to bring lobsters to North American and European dinner tables.

Dr Mejia has dedicated his life to helping the Miskito divers and campaigning for their welfare. His family-run clinic in La Ceiba has saved the lives of hundreds of men who've been struck by the bends while diving for lobster. He also trains boat captains in diving safety and first aid so that they can provide emergency help as soon as one of their divers falls ill. Dr Mejia has been a vocal advocate on the rights of Miskito men, brave enough to challenge both the lobster industry and the Honduran government on their treatment of divers.

His clinic, La Bendicion, doesn't have a website - Dr Mejia's too busy treating the divers to set one up - but he does have a wishlist of things it needs. This ranges from small items like soap, shoes and socks for the divers to larger things like crutches, wheelchairs, hospital beds and an ambulance.

If you want to find out more about Dr Mejia's wishlist, or support his work in any way, you can email the clinic or sign up to the Clinic's Facebook page:
