William is leaving the school where he teaches for the beginning of the summer break and he's looking forward to spending it with his new young bride Gilda. But life turns sour when he becomes a crime statistic. The neighbours don't care, the police don't want to know and his sister Susan thinks its his own fault. And anyway, she's got the builders in.
To add insult to injury, William is assaulted on his own doorstep. He wakes up to find that he and Susan have been kidnapped and have entered the unusual world of Teddy Middlemass who has an over-developed interest in horticulture and Gilda.
William and Susan are returned to their world but, fired by moral indignation, Susan sets out to find Gilda and the contents of William's house. This leads to more confrontation and an interesting cab ride.
