Find out more about Undercover Boss Kevin McCullough, COO of RWE npower

RWE npower - formerly known as National Power - is a leading integrated UK energy company, supplying gas, electricity and related services to residential and business customers.

The company operates and manages a flexible portfolio of coal, gas and oil-fired power stations as well as a portfolio of cogeneration plants, which produce both heat and electricity from a single source.

Although the majority of their energy is generated through the use of the fossil fuels coal and gas, npower also harvest energy using wind, hydro and tidal turbines. The company believes in the use of nuclear power stations to help build a low carbon future while meeting the steadily increasing demand for more and more electricity.

The Boss

Kevin McCullough has worked within the energy industry for his entire professional life, having kicked off his career immediately after departing 6th form college in 1984. His first job, as an auxiliary plant attendant at the now demolished Ferrybridge B coal-fired power station, required him to undertake a more physical approach to work and saw him work shifts shovelling coal and ash.

Kevin moved across from the operations side of the industry into management after being appointed Production Manager at Little Barford gas-fired power station in 1996. Appointments overseas in Dallas, Texas and Chicago followed. After his return to the UK, Kevin worked for the company's retail and renewable departments.

In March 2011, Kevin McCullough was appointed as Chief Operating Officer of RWE npower, taking responsibility for the Customer Services divisions of npower, as well as overseeing RWE npower's operational generation fleet and land bank from genesis to decommission. Kevin also heads up Health and Safety for the whole organisation and is the lead in dealing with the UK government on all matters relating to UK generation asset operations and development. He has recently been appointed Chair of the Welsh Assembly Government's Energy and Environment Sector Panel.

Despite Kevin's achievements, earlier this year Which? magazine reported that just 27% of the company's customers said that they were satisfied with the service provided by RWE npower. There's a mountain to climb in order to gain back the respect of customers and staff; will Kevin's spell undercover help turn the business around?
