With the Sex and the City movie sequel now bedded down to DVD, Hollywood gossip turns from one fashion-conscious New York dramedy to another. Could Ugly Betty be set for the big screen?

Ana Ortiz, who plays Betty's beautician big sister, Hilda, has revealed that talks are underway for a movie version of the recently-ended series.

"It's something that we've been talking about and it's something that America Ferrera would really love to do. That woman has so much determination that I can't imagine anything she puts her mind to not getting done," she told lifestyle site Latina.com.

Rumours to keep the colourful characters alive and kick-start a new adaptation franchise? Perhaps, but Hollywood has increasingly been looking to the small screen as a source of creativity and innovation in recent years, and America Ferrera is no stranger to the movies (see Real Women Have Curves, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and Lords of Dogtown among others).

Fans of the show are certainly keen to see the new, beautiful Betty grace the big screen (and share an onscreen kiss with Daniel) and with her move to London in the series finale, we could soon be seeing the continuing adventures of our favourite fashionista at large in the city.

Our Top Five big screen adaptations:
