Our Ten Best Ugly Betty Moments

Best moments

With so many great moments to choose from, where do we start? Here are our ten ultimate moments from all four seasons of Ugly Betty.

1) Poncho to honcho (from Pilot, season 1)

OK, let's start at the beginning. Right up front we get the classic Betty image as the fashion-challenged Queens girl meets the beautiful people at Mode draped in her hopelessly dorky red Guadalajara poncho. Keep repeating, Betty: "You are an attractive, intelligent, confident businesswoman."

2) Brace-face no more (from Million Dollar Smile, season 4)

It's time for Betty to take her braces off! But her attempts to get the procedure done are thwarted at every turn. She takes a knock to the head and finds herself immersed in a dream sequence featuring her orthodontist, Dr Frankel. In Betty's movie-inspired fantasy she has the perfect the smile...but also loses her basic Betty-ness, transforming into Wilhelmina's hard-nosed right hand woman.

3) The Bronx is up, but The Battery's down (from The Lyin', the Watch and the Wardrobe, season 1)

"New York, New York...You're a helluva town!" Justin dresses up as a sailor (well, Gene Kelly in On the Town to be precise. Kudos, kid) and performs a brief homage to Leonard Bernstein's Big Apple classic, throwing in a dance break as he taps through an otherwise grim annual holiday. Just one of a few magical musical numbers to make our top ten.

4) Guess who? (from The Lyin', the Watch and the Wardrobe, season 1)

"Hola, Happy Halloween!" Marc also shows off his Halloween costume... a hideous drag version of poor Betty, complete with braces, poncho and caterpillar eyebrows. "That is the absolute cruellest thing I've ever seen," says Wilhelmina. "Someone's getting a raise." Evidently it made her top ten too.

5) Good job, Betty (from The Wiener, the Bun and the Boob, season 4)

Betty's hot feature idea is to cover the worst jobs in New York. Somehow that sees her donning a sparkly wiener costume (to Marc's bun, pictured) and do a lacklustre dance number that lands her in a heap of garbage. Still, it leads to an opportunity for good-hearted Betty to do mean-spirited Marc a good turn.

6) Just good friends (from Kissed Off, season 3)

Trying to get all the gossip on the kiss Betty shared with musician Jesse the night before, Marc and Amanda play-act the scene, climaxing in an unexpectedly passionate and prolonged case of lip-locking by the odd couple. Did they just have a moment?

7) The wedding singer (from A Nice Day for a Posh Wedding, season 2)

It's Willy's big day but news of her infidelity is out. Betty gets the sack by a hurt Daniel. Bradford walks. Cue Amanda to inject a little pizzazz into the soapy mess (urged on by Marc of course), with a wholly inappropriate but smokin' hot version of Kelis' Milkshake.

8) Action! (from All the World's a Stage, season 4)

Stage kisses are on the script at Justin's acting class, but it's when Justin and Austin kiss for the first time that the drama really begins. It's a sweet moment of youthful tension that drains the colour from the set, with a perfect soundtrack courtesy of Maps' Valium in the Sunshine.

9) It's Grubstick! (from Betty's Wait Problem, season 2)

Ear-flicking bullies Amanda and Marc give accountant Henry a hard time about his name ("Hey, Grub-stank!") The resulting outburst from the mild-mannered number cruncher, full of Dutch pride, gets both Amanda and Marc hot under the collars.

10) A new woman (from In or Out, season 1)

"It's Alexis now!" Daniel's brother Alex takes a turn for the better in the climax to season one's In or Out. The Masked Lady's big reveal, and her new look, is a real jaw-dropper. Wilhelmina takes it well though.

So, those are our best moments from all four seasons. Do you agree? C'mon, let us know your favourites.
