As the end of Ugly Betty draws closer, we take a look back at Betty's turbulent love life...
Walter Tabachnik (Kevin Sussman)
Betty's first love, geeky Walter Tabachnik, dumped her for Gina, the broad next door, before having second thoughts. Betty gave him another chance, kind-hearted gal that she is, and at times it seemed Betty's family were more on Walter's side than hers. Fortunately Walter took a job as an assistant manager in a Maryland store and got out of Betty's life for good.
Best moment: Not many, the cheating rat. Walter scores points when he serenades Betty with a tuneless version of the Beauty and the Beast theme though.
Best line: "Hey, how come your Christmas lights spell 'Hilda Sucks'?"
Henry Grubstick (Christopher Gorham)
Bookish Henry was an accountant at Meade Publications, Inc and became one of Betty's most significant 'others'. A series of disastrous dates and confusion over true feelings meant the path to love was rockier than Betty's smile. At the outset of their romance, Walter - combined with Hilda's unwelcome interference - almost ruined things. Once Walter shipped out to Maryland though, the relationship blossomed. Until, that is, Henry's ex-girlfriend Charlie appeared in New York. Infidelity, babies and hot chocolate sauce followed before Betty rejected Henry's proposal of marriage. There was time for one last flirtation with what might have been (enough to wreck Betty's fledgling romance with Matt), before they parted company for the last time.
Best moment: After catching fire on a dance floor (flaming cocktail, Henry?), Grub-stank busts some shirtless Tony Manero moves, thus winning Betty back for a short time at least.
Best line: "Smile Betty, we're on Broadway!"
Giovanni 'Gio' Rossi (Freddy Rodriguez)
Smooth-talking Gio delivered sandwiches around Meade Publications, Inc when Betty first caught his eye. It wasn't entirely smooth sailing in those early days - 'Mode girl' Betty even got Gio fired over sundried tomatoes. He got the wrong sister initially too, dating Betty's big sister Hilda, but thanks to their spiky run ins he soon got back to his leading lady. Ultimately though, Betty decided to concentrate on her career and they became just good friends.
Best moment: Gio finds runaway DJ under the Coney Island boardwalk after Daniel upsets him.
Best line: "I don't want to be the rebound guy, I want to be 'The Guy'."
Jesse (Val Emmich)
Jesse was Betty's brooding but self-absorbed neighbour in her new apartment block. They went on a date, even after she caught the rocker making out with the equally shallow Mode receptionist, Amanda. About as well matched as much of Betty's wardrobe, the two were not destined to be romantically involved for long.
Best moment: When Betty dances alone in her apartment while Jesse rehearses his cover of American Girl off screen.
Best line: "You know Super B, you strike me as a dreamer!"
Matt Hartley (Daniel Eric Gold)
Sensitive Matt, a fellow YETI intern and 'sports guy', got really hooked on 'fashion girl' Betty, and she truly loved him too. They were planning on moving in together but it went wrong when he saw Betty kissing Henry, after which Matt dumped her. He was quite the catch, coming from a wealthy family, but when he took a job as Betty's boss at Mode, jealous Matt made life as hard as possible for Betty. They got back together briefly in the Bahamas, despite Amanda, but Matt left for Africa and it was game over for the love affair.
Best moment: His impassioned plea to Betty in a steamy men's locker room to 'dig deep' and 'find her connection' as he describes how he grew into sports journalism.
Best line: "To be honest, I wasn't really that interested in learning about fashion...I was more interested in learning about you."
Daniel Meade(Eric Mabius)
Privileged Daniel was dropped into the family business as editor-in-chief of Mode by his father, magazine mogul Bradford Meade. A lack of experience and an insatiable urge to womanise could have been his undoing, had the apparently unappealing Betty Suarez not been plucked from Queens to be his new personal assistant. Despite initial misgivings, Daniel's fondness for Betty grows over their four years together and it's a more mature, mellowed Daniel who questions the depth and nature of his feelings for a transformed Betty by season four's finale. To be continued?
Best moment: To be revealed in the season four finale, of course!
Best line: "Look, I know you're going places, it's just you gotta do me a favour - try not to get there too fast."
