End of day pub scenes are a classic on Time Team. There may not have been any on this programme but the team was staying in a pub, much to everyone's delight.
On every shoot there's always an unexpected challenge and at Piercebridge it was Hogweed, a plant that when touched gives a nasty rash. This was growing along parts of the river bank and required its own section in the health and safety forms. Sometimes we think we should do the same for pubs...
It may have been a blistering hot three days but the temperature of the river meant everyone needed wet suits to protect them against the cold. These were in high demand and due to the limited range of (small) sizes available there were some very snug fits - but this being a family website, we'll spare you the photos of some of the more tight squeezes.
On this shoot a cameo had been organised to reconstruct Roman bridge building techniques. The graphics team tried their hand at building three miniature Roman bridges, each using a different construction technique - unfortunately this didn't make it into the final programme!
