Britain's Drowned World

Watch this episode now on 4oD Britain 10,000 years ago

Ten thousand years ago, before sea levels rose at the end of Ice Age, a huge area of land connected Britain to the European continent.

'Doggerland', as it has been dubbed, possessed rich natural resources and would have been a mini-paradise for the Mesolithic hunter-gatherers who dwelt there.

In this Time Team Special, Tony Robinson and the team call upon the leading experts to piece together the story of this fascinating drowned world.

  1. Can I ask after watching the time team special tonight about the land connecting England to Holland, this land known as doggerland. How did the name doggerland become used, what has this name mean in relation to the land, is it English or Dutch? Is there any further investigations being ventured within this area or is it because for the North sea impossible? Thank you for any information regarding my questions as I realise you must be very busy producing this wunderful programme.
