Series 1 Summary
Dawn O'Porter loves clothes, but isn't a follower of fashion. She wants to prove to people hooked on the high street that buying way too many clothes is not the way to go. Dawn thinks it's better to fill your wardrobe with beautiful pieces that look great.
Episode 1 - Chevonne
Dawn meets Bristol girl Chevonne, who refuses to shop anywhere other than the high street, but is tired of looking the same as everyone else. She takes Chevonne on an epic shopping trip to demonstrate how vintage is a great way to achieve individual style.
Dawn also opens the doors to her sewing workshop, where a team of seamstresses and tailors are ready to patch, repair or completely reinvent old things.
And Dawn is joined by expert William Banks-Blaney, who travels the world finding high-end clothes from the past and dressing celebrities including Gillian Anderson and Nicole Scherzinger.
Episode 2 - Emma
Dawn introduces Emma to the joys of vintage clothing. She also gives a bomber jacket a facelift and looks at 80s fashion.
Dawn meets Reading girl Emma, whose love of high street clothes has left her dissatisfied when it comes to her rather lacklustre wardrobe.
Dawn's sewing workshop gets to work on a 1940s tea dress.
And Dawn looks through the fashion archives at how the maxi dress was born.
Episode 3 - Liza
Dawn faces tough opposition from vintage-hater Liza from Doncaster. Liza's not shy of spending a small fortune on one-off, bold fashion statements, but is a bit worried that she dresses like her teenage daughter.
Dawn's sewing workshop bring a pair of old jeans bang up to date.
And Dawn scans the the fashion archives, discovering how the flared trouser was born.
Episode 4 - Alice
Dawn pulls out all the vintage stops with Alice. The sewing workshop revamps a secondhand suit and a precious 80s wedding dress. And Dawn looks through the fashion archives at the iconic wiggle dress.
Brighton girl Alice is a high-street devotee who doesn't do 'girly'. While she can see the appeal of vintage fashion, Alice is convinced it isn't for her. Armed with a few clever ploys, can Dawn persuade her that clothes from the past can be the way forward to looking sophisticated and unique?
Episode 5 - Elissa
Dawn meets her toughest vintage adversary so far in the shape of Elissa from Sheffield, who feels she's in a fashion rut and erring on bland and boring.
Elissa wants to stand out from the crowd and wear clothes to reflect her personality, but vintage has never been an option. Dawn's sewing workshop give a sequinned top a radical reworking and breathes new life into a much loved family wedding dress.
Also, Dawn looks back to the birth of the mini skirt.
Episode 6 - Lucie
Dawn meets Lucie from London, who wants to re-ignite her passion for fashion as she prepares to go on holiday to Ibiza. And Dawn looks back at the birth of the bikini.
Dawn's sewing workshop team take on a jacket full of moth holes, a rather unusual homemade dress and a 60s hat.
And Dawn discovers why the 1970s was a decade with more distinct and crazy looks than any other.
