Already hugely respected by the musical establishment, Luciano Pavarotti shot to worldwide stardom, alongside Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo, during the 1990 World Cup when they performed one of the most remarkable classical concerts of recent times as The Three Tenors.

This is Channel 4's original broadcast of that night in Rome, as Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo combine sublime operatic arias with internationally popular songs in a feast of music sung at its very best, with the renowned Zubin Mehta conducting a combination of two orchestras of nearly two hundred musicians.
