The Three Musketeers

Episode Guide

The Three Musketeers (2011)

The action begins in Venice, where Athos (Macfadyen), Porthos (Stevenson), and Aramis (Evans) steal Leonardo da Vinci's plans for an airship.

They could reasonably expect to arrive back in Paris as heroes, but instead they find themselves out on their ear, as the Musketeers company is disbanded by Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz), who is furious at their failure; the trio have been deceived by the double-dealing Milady de Winter (Milla Jovovich), who passed the stolen plans on to England's Duke of Buckingham (Orlando Bloom).

In fact, it transpires that the Cardinal was complicit in their 'failure' - the incident being part of his elaborate plan to wrest power from King Louis (Freddie Fox) and Queen Anne (Juno Temple).

And as soon as the Musketeers discover this, they set out, aided by the young D'Artagnan (Logan Lerman), to save France from the megalomaniac cleric.

With Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort, leader of Richelieu's personal guard, James Corden as the servant Planchet and Gabriella Wilde as D'Artagnan's love interest Constance.

(2011) Cert: 12
