With films such as Gates Of Heaven (1978) and Fast Cheap and Out of Control (1997), Errol Morris has proved himself one of the most consistently inventive and intelligent documentary makers at work in the US.
The Thin Blue Line was the film that brought him to a wider audience. Morris himself described it as 'the first non-fiction film noir', and its moody tone and sinister Philip Glass soundtrack ensure that it's atmospheric viewing.
But as the film progresses it becomes clear that there's an awful lot at stake, and the conclusion had serious implications for those involved.
