Series 21 Summary
The 21st season of the much-loved US animation sees Homer getting a shot at movie stardom, Mrs Krabappel facing a challenge and Marge taking to the boxing ring.
Episode 1 - Homer the Whopper
Homer is chosen to appear in a film about a superhero character created by Comic Book Guy.
To whip him into shape, the movie studio hires celebrity fitness trainer Lyle McCarthy (guest voice Seth Rogen), who helps him to develop a superhero's physique.
But when Lyle moves on to his next client, Homer struggles to stick to the new healthy regime.
Episode 2 - Bart Gets a 'Z'
When Edna Krabappel confiscates all her students' mobile phones, Bart gets revenge by spiking her coffee with alcohol and Principal Skinner fires her for being drunk.
She is replaced by a cool young teacher with a love of social media, but Bart finds himself plagued by guilt over what happened.
Episode 3 - The Great Wife Hope
When the male citizens of Springfield become obsessed with the brutal sport of Ultimate Punching, Marge catches Bart and Nelson fighting.
She stages a protest to get such sports banned, but is challenged to step into the ring by a promoter who has embraced the controversy.
Episode 4 - Treehouse of Horror XX
In a three-story Halloween special, Lisa and Bart seek revenge on their teachers in a homage to the films of Alfred Hitchcock.
Krusty's latest fast-food snack turns the citizens of Springfield into angry zombies, and an accident in Moe's microbrewery leaves the beer tainted with Homer's blood.
Episode 5 - The Devil Wears Nada
It's all change for Homer at work when Mr Burns gives Carl the job of supervisor at the nuclear plant on the day Ted retires.
Marge and her friends try to raise money for charity by posing for a sexy calendar commemorating events in American history.
However, Marge is too shy to show off her body until the photographer gives her some wine.
Episode 6 - Pranks and Greens
When Bart finds out about Springfield Elementary's best prankster ever, Andy Hamilton (guest voice Jonah Hill), he seeks him out and asks him about his legendary practical jokes.
Marge feels like an outsider when members of her mother-and-baby group criticise her refreshments.
Episode 7 - Rednecks and Broomsticks
Homer starts spending time with Cletus and his friends when he discovers that they are making moonshine.
Lisa gets to know three teenage girls who are Wiccans, but she finds herself obliged to act as star prosecution witness in their trial when Chief Wiggum arrests them for witchcraft. Neve Campbell guest stars.
Episode 8 - O Brother, Where Bart Thou?
When Bart observes the companionship between Lisa and Maggie, he grows jealous and asks Homer whether he can have a baby brother to keep him company.
Homer is not enthusiastic about the idea, so Bart heads to the Springfield Orphanage to find himself a male sibling. Kim Cattrall guest stars.
Episode 9 - Thursdays with Abie
While waiting for the family on a bench at an amusement park, Grampa gets chatting to a local journalist and tells him about his wartime service on board a battleship.
When the story is published, Grampa gets lots of attention but his relationship with Homer falls victim to his new-found fame.
Episode 10 - Once Upon a Time in Springfield
Ratings for Krusty's TV show start to fall so executives bring in a co-star, Princess Penelope, to increase its appeal. At first Krusty is annoyed, but romance soon blossoms with his new colleague.
Meanwhile, Mr Burns cuts costs at the nuclear plant by taking away the staff's free doughnuts. Anne Hathaway guest stars.
Episode 11 - Million Dollar Maybe
Homer misses a family wedding so he can go to Kwik-E-Mart and buy a lottery ticket. When he wins the jackpot, he keeps his good fortune secret so Marge won't feel let down.
He buys the family lavish gifts anonymously, but Bart soon finds out what he's up to. Chris Martin from Coldplay guest stars.
Episode 12 - Boy Meets Curl
When Homer takes Marge out for a romantic evening at the ice rink, they are both intrigued to watch a curling team practising and soon find themselves hooked on the sport.
As her parents compete to reach the Winter Olympic Games, Lisa becomes hopelessly addicted to collecting Olympic memorabilia.
Episode 13 - The Color Yellow
When Miss Hoover asks her students to research their family history, Lisa is distressed to discover that most of her forebears seem to have been crooks and deadbeats.
Then she finds an old diary in the attic that was written by her ancestor Eliza Simpson and describes a remarkable 19th-century adventure.
Episode 14 - Postcards from the Wedge
Mrs Krabappel writes to Homer and Marge about Bart's bad behaviour when he fails to give in his homework and a conference with Principal Skinner follows.
Homer insists on punishing his son but Marge is more sympathetic, inspiring a scheming Bart to start pitting one parent against the other.
Episode 15 - Stealing First Base
When Bart's class is temporarily merged with another at school, he is forced to share a desk with a girl called Nikki and starts to develop a crush on her.
Lisa's classmates isolate her for being studious, but a powerful friend soon comes to her rescue. Angela Bassett and Sarah Silverman guest star.
Episode 16 - The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed
Ned Flanders invites the whole Simpson family along on his church trip to the Holy Land, where Homer fails to take a proper interest in the local history and culture.
Then an eccentric tour guide (guest voice Sacha Baron Cohen) takes the group to a variety of famous monuments.
Episode 17 - American History X-cellent
When police officers are called to Mr Burns's estate, they spot priceless stolen paintings on the walls and arrest him for art fraud.
With his billionaire boss out of the picture, Smithers takes charge at the power plant, but soon falls out with the employees and brings in a tough new working schedule.
This prompts Homer and his friends to devise a plan to break Mr Burns out of prison. Joe Mantegna guest stars.
Episode 18 - Chief of Hearts
While completing a stint of court-ordered community service, Homer befriends Chief Wiggum by offering him one of his sandwiches.
However, when Wiggum is injured during a robbery, Homer doesn't support his new friend in the way that he should.
Bart gets addicted to a new game called Battle Ball, so his family and teachers try to help him kick the habit.
Episode 19 - The Squirt and the Whale
The Simpsons embrace cheaper, alternative energy sources by putting up a wind turbine in their back garden.
But when Homer realises that some of this power is being redirected back to the local electricity company, he decides to remove his home from the grid altogether.
A storm erupts, beaching a blue whale and trapping it on the shore, so Lisa attempts to free the distressed creature.
Episode 20 - To Surveil with Love
When a bomb squad mistakenly blows up Homer's unattended gym bag, radiation is released into the city and the authorities immediately react by suspending civil liberties.
Surveillance cameras are installed all over Springfield, and Chief Wiggum enlists concerned citizens to help keep the city safe.
Meanwhile, Lisa grows disillusioned with being blonde, so she dyes her hair a darker colour. Eddie Izzard guest stars.
Episode 21 - Moe Letter Blues
Moe writes a letter to Homer, Apu and Rev Lovejoy, who are on holiday with their children, and threatens to run away with one of their wives.
The trio attempt to work out whose spouse Moe is referring to, trying to recall any clues in his behaviour towards Marge, Manjula and Helen, but when they return from their trip, they're in for the surprise of their lives.
Episode 22 - The Bob Next Door
Bart becomes convinced that Walt, his new neighbour, is really his arch enemy Sideshow Bob (guest voice Kelsey Grammer), returned in disguise to seek revenge.
Marge tries to convince her son that this is nonsense by taking him to see Bob in prison, but things are not as they seem at the jail.
Episode 23 - Judge Me Tender
Moe discovers a hidden talent for judging contests and is invited to fly to Los Angeles to join the judges' panel of TV show American Idol.
With Moe's bar temporarily closed, Homer spends more time hanging around the house, where he drives Marge to distraction. Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres guest.
