  4. we as residents of anfield who have grew up and lived in this area all our lives, 'YES' have seen a decline in the area and it has its bad points but doesnt evey city? you focused on all the negative points and failed to show the heart of this community. there are plenty of hard working good famillies in this area. unfotunately there are drugs and crime in this area, but this happens everywhere. lots of people in anfield have fell on hard times due to no fault of there own. anfield is under regeneration but this seems to be a very long and slow process for the forseable future. the money tony donated was a great gesture but maybe he should of looked a bit further into our community and found some way of helping one of the various projects we have here and focus on the positive instead of just showing the negative side to anfield.

  5. Hi to all, I agree about the way Anfield was portrayed but believe Michelle has brought up a good point about local authority and government responsibility. Not to mention how valid her point is about provision for young people! its sad but could i point out 2 things, c4 didnt start those fires, the people complaining were not from outside the city were they and do we really think those fires or bad points were not really there to be seen? The problem is they are there but the balance of portrayal was all wrong. I grew up in the area and know too well that just like anywhere it has its good and bad points, i would have loved to see the new school in there and revamped sports centre but unfortunately that doesnt make good TV. Its obvious theyve shown the bad to highlight the good intention. So, Could we all please focus on the good that was actually portrayed and make a note that the people doing such noble things for our community were also from our community! I know the team at Daisy very well and can assure Mr ANONYMOUS that at least 4 of Daisys staff went to Anny comp and grew up in the area. I can also speak from experience that Daisy does a lot of work not only with the young people and families in that area but also schools. I know they are regularly at Anfield Sports Centre doing stuff! This program will help them reach and therefore help more families in Anfield and all over Liverpool. We are a city not an area and as scousers we should be proud of dave, rally and support him and each other not bicker amongst ourselves in front of others about geographical borders or post codes. Dave and the team are an inspiration and we should be proud of them as they are our own showing the world the best of who we really are as scousers despite what bigots would wish to think! Mr ANONYMOUS and anyone who is angered or saddened all have the opportunity, just like Dave has, to help! So, maybe we should look at helping Daisy and Anfield as a community and all prove the stereotype wrong?

  7. Tony Banks has the courage of his convictions. Being an Ex Soldier myself, I can understand how he felt in losing mates. I note from the programme that he was a Paratrooper. Was he in 1, 2, 3 or 9 Para Regt. I hope that you can tell me or, that, this will be passed on to him and that he can tell me himself. REgards. Dougie.

  8. I dont know if tony will be reading this or not but i would like to say a big thank you for you generosity. Having previously worked for DAISY uk i know how much help the money will be for dave and his team. It will enable them to put a number of activities on for the all the kids participating. I would also like to say that the area of Anfield is not as bad as it was portrayed.Due to the 2008 capital of culture win alot of the houses in the area are due to be demolised and therefore boarded up.I understand that a weeks worth of filming needs to be edited into a 1 hour show but the area and more in particuplar the youths where shown in a bad light. Having said all this iam glad it was highlighted as i feel the goverment should be more aware of the problems that Liverpool and the rest of the U.K have with the youth of today. I feel that they should be setting up more youth centres and helping kids have a better future. Thanks again

  9. I saw the secret millionaire last night and was really moved by Dave's reaction when Tony revealed who he really was. I just wanted to say that Dave Kelly is born and bred in anfield, went to anfield comp and still lives in anfield. Daisy UK, keep up the good work, their website is www.daisyuk.com

  10. I was happy to see Daisy Uk get such a great input of much needed funds from this programme as I work in the same field and know they do some great work. I have been a regular viewer of 'Millionare', however I was disturbed by last nights programme and how it veered from its normal format. The programme normally highlights perhaps 4/5 organisations or people and generally consists of interviews with people involved with those groups, but last night it only highlighted 2, the young man who also appeared and received support, volunteered with one of these groups and this programme dwelt more on the area that Tony Banks was staying in rather than on the groups he hoped to help and the people involved with them. The two groups who were helped are obviously both good charities and Tony obviously cares deeply about them, but I feel that the editing of this programme was used to highlight the faults/problems of the Anfield area and some of its residents, rather than the work the charities undertake, more so than in previous programmes, especially as neither of these charities are actually based in the Anfield area. The area highlighted last night does have streets of houses boarded up, primarily because of the planned new stadium for Liverpool FC and the redevelopment planned for the area. However it is not representative of either Anfield itself or Liverpool in general. I would hope that the production team behind this series feel able to clarify that the streets shown in this programme consist of approximately 10 streets and does not reflect the true conditions or people who live in Anfield.

  12. after watching tony banks in anfield as anfield residents we are highly disgusted at how all anfield was portrayed.we cant understand how much it was mentioned about houses waiting for demolition but not expressed why these houses are getting demolished.we had grandparents living in them streets and was ordered out threw a court after 60years of living there in order for liverpool fcs extended ground.as you no we all live in anfield and can assure you that not the whole of the area is like that it has bin portrayed something its not that area is under regeneration at the moment.as this said in anfield we expected tony banks to have visited a project conected to anfield, the projects he visited was not in this area. we feel this has given are area a really bad picture and was slightly unfair as only the demolition/regenaration area was shown.

  13. I have just retired from a position as a services welfare officer wrvs, this fantastic organisation provides support to single members of the forces and is now established throughout the UK and abroad. Part of that support is being there to listen to those that return from deployment. I felt very deeply for you Tony, I feel you still have some talking to do regarding your time spent in the Falklands, especially with the Paras and especially at the age of 20. This was an excellent programme, What a fantastic man is David, and what a great organisation is Helping Hands. The programme also brings to mind the members of the forces who return from Afghanistan, severly disabled, and who maybe do not have ability to do what you, Tony, have done to progress with life. I sincerely hope that you are one of us who raise as much as we can for the organisations that support these soldiers.

  17. I watched your program last night from the Anfield. Once again television makes Liverpool look like a complete slum area. Why did you put him into a house in an area that is being demolished which if you know the area people have been moved out for a long time except for the odd few druggies and drunks. I live in that area, in a nice semi detatched house (which we own) with good neighbours who all look after their homes, and elderly neighbours but you fail to show that side of Anfield. Also the projects and people that where helped where not from the area. Once again false information on the programs part. Yes Anfield might not be the best area to live but if your programs portray that they are helping the area then make sure that projects in the area chosen. Why can't these type of programs be truthful. I know it is classed as entertainment but, knowing the area and knowing that you have not helped anybody in that area I feel very let down, and the program is staged. I have always had my doubts about this program and last nights show confirmed it. Tony Banks is a very generous man and he has helped a lot of people, but the people of Anfield are not heartless and I know a lot of people who are upset by the programs potrayal uf us.

  21. Hi Tony .. not sure if you will be reading this but I felt so sorry for Jo, the elderly lady who said nobody came to see her etc. I would love to be able to write to her via Brenda at Helping Hands, but I cannot find an address in Liverpool for the organisation. You are a truly inspirational man Tony.

  24. Hi Tony, Hope you get this message, just watched you episode on C4 and thought that YOU were fantastic. I'm a former soldier (Scots Guards) and have seen active service although not affected as some but felt so close to those that did. I was very touched that you should feel this emotion and I hope that the making of the program helped you as much as it obviously helped those others. My very best to you and yours Kind Regards David
