The Royal Ballet in Cuba

Award-winning filmmakers Michael Nunn and William Trevitt - aka The Ballet Boyz - join The Royal Ballet as they embark on a historic tour to Cuba. It's the first time a major international ballet company has visited Cuba since the revolution and coincides with its 50th anniversary. The Ballet Boyz are granted exclusive access to this extraordinary cultural exchange between the world's most prestigious ballet company and a country synonymous with economic hardship and political isolation, but that is passionate about dance.

The tour sees the return of Carlos Acosta - Cuba's own ballet hero - to his native soil, performing in MacMillan's acclaimed Manon. The programme also features an unprecedented collaboration with The National Ballet of Cuba, Sir Frederick Ashton's atmospheric A Month in the Country and Wayne McGregor's ultra-modern Chroma.

With ticket prices at an affordable one dollar, and footage relayed to a big screen in the heart of Havana, it's the first chance for many Cubans to see one of the great international companies and welcome home their national hero.

The film also charts the logistical nightmare of taking such an ambitious production on the road, from dealing with broken generators to coping when swine flu hits.

Featuring stunning performance footage, intimate behind-the-scenes action and unprecedented access to some of the biggest names in ballet, this promises to be one of the arts highlights of the year.

Other Christmas 2009 dance highlights on More4 include Baz Luhrmann's film Strictly Ballroom, Emile Ardolino's film of The Nutcracker, and another chance to see Strictly Bolshoi, which follows ballet choreographer Christopher Wheeldon as he creates a work for the Bolshoi Ballet.
