This documentary follows English National Opera in the eight weeks leading up to the opening night of its first immersive opera, and gains a unique insight into the often secretive workings of radical, award-winning theatre company Punchdrunk's creative process.
The Duchess of Malfi was a new commission for composer Torsten Rasch, directed by Punchdrunk. The adaptation of John Webster's infamously bloodthirsty Jacobean play took place earlier in 2010 at an enormous site in the East End of London, with its audience free to wander where they pleased.
As opening night approaches, how will everyone cope with the challenges of the music, the narrative and the venue? Is it possible to present an opera in an abandoned office block with no stage, no set narrative and very few rules?
