As the planes struck The World Trade Center on 11 September 2001, Paul McCartney was sitting on board another plane in JFK airport, waiting to fly home to England. Like all other flights that day, McCartney's was grounded, and he returned to New York City.
Albert Maysles - who first collaborated with the Beatles when they first visited America in 1964 - follows McCartney's poignant and cathartic journey through the city's streets in this feature-length documentary, and his planning and performance of the tribute concert that took place less than six weeks after the attack.
The film features back-stage footage from the concert, with appearances from David Bowie, President Clinton, Eric Clapton, Steve Buscemi, Sheryl Crow, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, Mick Jagger, Jay Z, Billy Joel, Elton John and Keith Richards.
True Stories commissions and showcases the best international feature documentaries.
