The Last Chancers
About the Show
Meet Johnny, Paul, Dan and Brian - a bunch of 20-somethings, living in Brighton and struggling to make something of their band
Series 1 Summary
For neurotic lead-singer Johnny (Adam Buxton), Detox is his only chance to escape the misery of his hated office job and see his true talent realised. However, fellow band members Dan and Paul don't share Johnny's drive and optimism.
Johnny fears that Brian the drummer, an ageing rocker, is projecting altogether the wrong image. In fact, it's Johnny who's the weak link, trying to be both lead singer and play the guitar, which is all proving too much for him.
The band have eight hours in a recording studio. Johnny fights for perfection, and Karl (Kevin Eldon) - the producer - makes his own unique contribution to proceedings.
Dan devises a plan to seduce Liv and Johnny throws a party so he can make a move on Kirby. A day in a recording studio pushes their relationships to breaking point.
News of a Battle of the Bands contest could just give the group the opportunity they've been waiting for. If only people would get their name right...
Convinced that ageing drummer Brian is projecting the wrong image for the band, Johnny decides it's time to rethink the group's line-up.
But with a photoshoot for a local paper imminent, will he be able to get through to Brian that his services are no longer required?
Johnny struggles to write a song that'll prove to the group that he's capable of writing material as good as Liv's, and seeks help from feisty Aussie temp Kirby and his pompous flatmate James.
When neither proves particularly helpful, he pulls an all-nighter and winds up late for work.
Aspiring rock star Johnny is still in search of fame, egged on by his hip and happening flatmate, who's currently living the dream.
Flushed with success from Detox's demo review in the NME ('the best of a bad bunch'), Johnny decides to throw a party to celebrate. But can he impress the record label exec?
Last in the series. Johnny's exploits continue in his quest to be lead singer of 'the best band in the world'.
