Who Needs an Empty?

Nobody wants to be without a decent home, but all sorts of people find themselves in housing need.

Maybe they...

  • are living in over-crowded, temporary or unfit conditions...
  • can't afford their current rental or mortgage payments...
  • can't get the deposit they need to buy a home...
  • are unemployed or struggling to cope on a low income

Meet some of the people we've come across who would love to transform a wasted empty property into their home.

  • Meet ex-soldier Carl who fought for his country but can't get a home of his own.

  • Meet Karen, an ambulance technician and single mum, who struggles with the cost of renting privately.

  • Meet Amanda and Lucas who privately rent and fear they'll never be able to get on the property ladder. They are part of Generation Rent.

  • Meet care workers Vicky and Bill who have resorted to living in a shed to be able to save for a house deposit.

  • Meet 20-something Karl who has been 'hidden' homeless for 7 years. After sofa-surfing and living with friends, he's now living in a tiny room at his nan's.

  • Meet single mum, Kellie, her three kids, her mum and her brother, who all live in an overcrowded house.
