The Family

Thursday 10 December 2009

The second series of The Family is the first of its kind to focus on British Asian family life in such detail. Last month, Channel 4 hosted an event at London's Royal Society of Arts that showcased an episode of the programme, along with three short films from Asian filmmakers.

After the screening, Channel 4's head of diversity Oona King chaired a discussion on the broader subject of Asians and Asian family life on British terrestrial television and in film. Watch the video clips below to see highlights of the discussion.

The screening was held in partnership with Bombay Mix, a London-based organisation that stages various events, presenting films and arts concerning the entire Indian subcontinent and South Asian people worldwide.

On the panel:

- Oona King, Channel 4 Head of Diversity

- Aysha Rafaele, Channel 4 Commissioning Editor

- Sadia and Shazia Ur-Rehman, Directors of short film 'PL4TE5'

- Parminder Vir OBE, Media Consultant
