Shay is married to Sunny - nine years her senior - and they live together in the Grewal family home. She adores living in the Grewal household and is currently estranged from her own mother. Her father passed away when she was a teenager.
Shay is ambitious and studied a BA Hons in Sociology and an MA in Comparative World Studies. She is currently a human resources recruitment consultant in the city.
Shay and Sunny had their registry office wedding in 2005 but it was their big, Punjabi wedding - that took place in August this year and a major part of the series - that was a major focus for the family. Shay feels that the filming has come at a very poignant time of her life.
Shay enjoys singing and used to sing Kirtans (religious songs) and play harmonium at her local Gurdwara. She would describe herself as spiritual and loyal.
