Hayley Taylor visits Southend-on-Sea, with the number of jobless women in the UK at a 20-year high.

Hayley takes on an all-female group of unemployed who the recession has hit hard. The number of people claiming out-of-work benefit in the area has almost doubled in five years.

Sue Riches, who's 54, has been out of work and claiming incapacity benefit since having a nervous breakdown four years ago, but says she now feels ready to re-enter the work force.

Twenty-one-year-old Chelsé Cooper, a self confessed workaholic, has always had jobs since leaving school, but was forced to sign on for the first time in her life when she was made redundant two months ago.

Forty-three-year-old Dee Miller - a single mum with five kids - has never had a full-time job, but now her youngest has turned seven, the government expects her to actively seek employment or face losing her benefits.

Twenty-three-year-old Lianne Langley is stuck in a rut. She has been out of work for three years, has nowhere stable to live and spends her days hanging around with a crowd of friends who are also unemployed.

Hayley thinks she can help all the women, but knows Lianne especially will need to show real commitment to change if she's going to move forwards into employment.
