There are a number of state benefits that are designed to help people while they search for work. The main one is Job Seekers Allowance, check the website to make sure your claiming all you re entitled to.
Flexible New Deal
This programme aims to help you find a job, or get training / work experience to assist with finding a job. More information including who is eligible to take part is available online. In addition there are voluntary New Deal programmes available are for lone parents; disabled people; partners of benefit claimants

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)

National Debtline
National Debtline provides a free, confidential and independent helpline for people with debt problems in England, Wales and Scotland. The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS)
CCCS provide free and confidential services from budgeting advice to practical debt management plans. Helpline: 0800 138 1111 (lines open Monday - Friday 8am - 8pm).
