As a passionate baker and ambassador for the Real Bread Campaign since 2008, Tom Herbert, star of The Fabulous Baker Brothers, is more than just a pretty face. Find out more about his work with the Bake Your Lawn scheme
Tom is the front man for the Bake Your Lawn scheme, which helps children to learn that Real Bread starts life in a field, not a factory, by distributing wheat seed to schools around Britain and a guide on how to grow it, mill it, bake it, and eat it.
Tom says 'How cool is it that Bake Your Lawn lets kids follow the whole Real Bread journey from seed to sandwich on their own doorsteps? They get to make their own lush loaves totally from scratch - a scratch in the ground!'
Part of the charity Sustain, and funded by the Big Lottery's Local Food programme, the Real Bread Campaign is fighting for better bread in Britain and helps bring 'Real Bread' - bread made without any sort of artificial additives - back to the hearts of local communities around the country. Finding ways to make bread 'better for us, better for our communities and better for the planet', other Real Bread Campaign work includes Lessons in Loaf to get kids baking in schools; the Knead to Know guide to starting a Real Bread enterprise in your local community, work to put Real Bread on the Menu of schools, hospitals and other public sector canteens; and challenging food labelling and marketing laws.
