Alcoholics Anonymous run free self-help groups for people who are alcoholics. You may have heard of their 12-step recovery programme which you can find out about by calling Alcoholics Anonymous on 0845 769 7555 (local rate, opening times may vary in some areas). If you go to their website www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk you’ll find a full list of available meetings.
National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACOA) provide information, advice and support for children of alcohol dependent parents and people concerned for their welfare. Call their helpline 0800 358 3456 (free, Monday - Saturday 10am, till 7pm on Mondays & Fridays, 9pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, 3pm Saturdays). Al-Anon Family Groups offer understanding, information and support to people concerned about the drinking of a family member. The organisation can be contacted on 020 7403 0888 (10am – 10pm every day of the year), where you'll also find out about local groups. The 24 Hour National Domestic Violence Helpline is for women experiencing physical, emotional or sexual violence in the home. They provide advice, information and support. Callers can be referred to local refuges and emergency and temporary accommodation on 0808 2000 247 (free, confidential, open 24 hours a day everyday). The Helpline is a member of Language Line and can provide access to an interpreter for non-English speaking callers. The helpline can also access the BT Type Talk Service for deaf callers, or visit the websites www.womensaid.org.uk or www.refuge.org.uk.

National Debtline provides a free, confidential and independent helpline for people with debt problems in England, Wales and Scotland. They can give expert advice over the phone as well as providing a self help information pack. Call 0808 808 4000 (free, confidential, Mondays - Friday 9am - 9pm, Saturdays 9.30 - 1pm).
