Series 2 Summary
Season two of the US sitcom sees Tessa returning to the suburbs after spending the summer in New York City with her grandmother.
Episode 1 - Homecoming
George is surprised and unsettled to discover that Tessa is keen to borrow his guitar and sign up for a local talent show since finding out that her long-absent mother was a talented musician.
Dallas is annoyed when Noah tries to lure Dalia's nanny Carmen away from the Royce household. Lisa confronts her parents about Ryan's adoption.
Episode 2 - The Witch of East Chatswin
When Tessa tries to inspire Dalia and her friends to wear less revealing Halloween costumes, she attracts the attention of local feminist Paula, who is regarded as a witch by Sheila and the other Chatswin housewives.
Dallas goes to the country club's Halloween party in a Barbie costume, but she is upset when George turns down her invitation to accompany her dressed as Ken.
Episode 3 - Ryan's Song
Dallas does her best to impress George on their first date, but she overdoes it with her extravagant outfits and fine dining requirements.
When her life coach turns up to chaperone the event, George can't conceal his irritation.
Tessa babysits for Noah but calls Lisa for back-up when his big, dark house gives her the creeps.
Lisa kindly sends a love-struck Ryan to keep Tessa company, but he's suspicious of his sister's generosity, assuming she's only being nice to him because he's 'dying'.
Episode 4 - Foam Finger
Kimantha, Kenzie and Kaitlin are confused and upset when Dalia announces that she is going to be best friends with her father's fiancée and can no longer lead their clique.
With nobody to tell them what to do, the trio turn to Tessa for advice and she nominates Lisa to be their new leader.
Dallas and George's relationship gets more serious, but their intimate encounters don't go the way he imagined.
Episode 5 - The Wishbone
Thanksgiving traditions are being abandoned all over Chatswin. Tessa decides to visit her grandmother in New York City so that she can meet her mother Alex (guest star Malin Akerman) for the first time.
Dallas fires her chef so that she and George can prepare a Thanksgiving dinner together to distract him from Tessa's reunion with her mother.
Malik joins the Shay family for the holiday celebrations, but has an embarrassing encounter with Sheila in the bathroom.
Episode 6 - Friendship Fish
Dallas gives George a Chatswin-style makeover, which makes him feel more at home in the suburbs.
But when his friends from New York come for a surprise visit, they ridicule his new look and his posh lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Lisa, wanting company after breaking up with Malik, decides to spend the weekend with Tessa, but Tessa just wants some time alone with her new tablet computer.
Episode 7 - Krampus
George arranges a Christmas holiday for Tessa - a trip to New York with her mother, Alex (guest star Malin Akerman).
However, despite having a nice time, Tessa is surprised to discover that she misses George and is homesick for Chatswin.
Ryan is distressed when he finds out that he's adopted, and Dalia begs Carmen, her former nanny, to return to the Royce household.
Episode 8 - Black Thai
The Shays decide to take action to get Ryan back when he takes up residence with Malik's family and adopts a new identity.
Tessa and Dalia fall out when they get their exam results and Dalia's lavish reward of a new car from Dallas puts Tessa's ice cream treat from George in the shade.
Noah and Jill hire Mr Wolfe to tutor their baby boy so that he can get into the best nursery in Chatswin.
Episode 9 - Junior Secretary's Day
Tessa has her wisdom teeth removed but suffers some very strange side effects from the pain-killing medication she is given afterwards.
Fred is too embarrassed to tell Sheila about his setback at work, so he pretends he still has to go away on an important business trip. Then he hides out in the Altmans' basement, where George mistakes him for a rat.
Episode 10 - Chinese Chicken
Once everybody knows that Tessa and Ryan are a couple, the girlfriends of the other school football players welcome Tessa to their ranks, much to her horror.
George feels smothered when Dallas attempts to promote his company, so he talks Noah and Fred into starting a rock band as a way to escape from the women in their lives.
But when they discover that Sheila is a brilliant singer, creative differences divide the group.
Episode 11 - Yakult Leader
Dallas's toy dog Yakult becomes depressed when Noah lures her favourite dog walker away from the Royce household.
So Dallas hires her ex-boyfriend Yoni (guest star Wilmer Valderrama) to remove all the negative energy from the hound's environment.
Sheila asks Tessa to arrange a blind date for Lisa, who is worried that she's doomed to a life of spinsterhood, but Tessa has trouble identifying the type of guy Lisa would enjoy dating.
Episode 12 - Body Talk
Tessa becomes producer of Chatswin High's Teen Talk television show, but isn't happy when presenter Ryan becomes a hit talking about his amazing body.
George discovers that Dallas's house is technically in East Chatswin, leading to Dallas being ejected from Chatswin society and Dalia having to transfer to East Chatswin High, where she finds herself at the bottom of the school social ladder.
Episode 13 - Blowtox and Burlap
Tessa takes Ryan to see an art house film, but they both react to the movie in unexpected ways. Sheila's mother comes to Chatswin for a visit and causes tension in the Shay household.
Dallas has a bad reaction to a cosmetic procedure on her face and is unable to join George on their Valentine's Day outing. This leaves him obliged to consume a rich and elaborate 18-course meal, created by culinary genius Chef Julio, on his own.
Episode 14 - T-Ball and Sympathy
The success of her romance with Ryan turns Tessa into the school relationship expert and she starts giving advice to everyone, including a lovelorn Mr Wolfe, who thinks that Chef Alan is cheating on him.
Dallas and Noah's long-running feud escalates when Dallas asks George if he could help her to coach a junior T-ball team in order to defeat Noah at his favourite game.
Episode 15 - Leaving Chatswin
When their elderly friend Marty passes away, George and Noah have to organise a memorial and figure out what to do with his ashes, despite the fact that they didn't know him very well.
When distant colleges start pursuing Ryan with football scholarships, he is too worried about what Tessa will say to be honest with her about it and they are forced to consider separate futures.
Episode 16 - How to Be a Baby
Dalia persuades Mr Wolfe to try a new look in order to get over his breakup with Chef Alan.
Noah is convinced Carmen is the love of his life, and Tessa quits her job in favour of an unpaid internship with published author Jill Werner.
Episode 17 - Eat, Pray, Eat
Dallas frets that George will never love her as much as his ex, Tessa's mother Alex, so she starts comfort eating.
Tessa worries that she has lost her cool, youthful persona and tries to get it back by going to Dalia's trance party.
Noah finds out that Carmen has been dating his therapist.
Episode 18 - Brown Trembler
George offers Noah and baby Opus a place to stay after Noah's divorce from Jill leaves him camping out at a hotel.
Sheila urges Fred to apply for a competitive sales job, so he seeks Tessa's advice on how to appear vibrant enough to impress the youthful boss.
Dallas worries that Dalia is too materialistic after discovering her daughter has a terrible hoarding problem.
Episode 19 - Decemberfold
When George agrees to participate in the annual 'Dads of Chatswin' charity calendar, he becomes obsessed with his body image and alienates Dallas in the process.
Noah's daughter Jenna comes back to Chatswin for a visit but she doesn't yet know about the end of her parents' marriage. Dalia suddenly starts being pleasant to Tessa, leaving Lisa deeply suspicious.
Episode 20 - Go, Gamblers!
George asks Dallas to move in with him so they can share their bills and save a fortune, but she feels this is a thoroughly unromantic proposal.
Ryan is under huge pressure to choose which college to attend, but finds it impossible to make up his mind and recruits Tessa to help him come to a decision. Carmen Electra guest stars.
Episode 21 - Apocalypse Meow
A furious Tessa blames Dalia when her relationship with Ryan hits the rocks and their feud gets out of hand at school.
George struggles to tell Tessa that he has sold their home so that they can move in with the Royces, so he enlists Dallas to help break the news.
Noah hatches a plan to get his own back on Bob, his former therapist, for stealing Carmen away from him.
Episode 22 - Stray Dogs
George's attempt to buy Dallas the house of her dreams backfires when their differing tastes lead her to doubt whether he is in love with her.
Tessa decides to move out rather than be forced to live with her arch enemy Dalia, but she struggles to find alternative accommodation.
Sheila tries to restore traditional values to Chatswin by hosting a Father-Daughter Purity Ball in the hope that Lisa will be crowned queen.
