Featuring fly-on-the-wall footage of the creative process in Moscow, and diary-cam confessions and interviews from some of the ballet world's most illustrious figures, Strictly Bolshoi captures the trials and tribulations involved in creating a ballet for one of the world's most notorious artistic establishments.
The film was conceived and executed by Ballet Boyz Michael Nunn and William Trevitt (former stars of the Royal Ballet).
With unprecedented access, the Boyz follow leading ballet choreographer Christopher Wheeldon around the studios of the world-famous Bolshoi as he strives to create a ballet worthy of its dancers. The film records the strict traditions the dancers must observe daily, as artists and as a company, and reveals the pressures that Christopher experiences in this most demanding assignment.
This documentary culminates with footage from the ballet that Christopher choreographed for the Bolshoi, which they performed in Moscow in a world premiere before taking it to London.
