Historian David Starkey tells the story of Anne Boleyn, who charmed Henry with her seductive French ways and gave him his second daughter. Anne was clever, witty, and had the good sense to refuse to become Henry's mistress while he was still married to Catherine of Aragon.
This encouraged him to find a way of divorcing Catherine, even if the Pope would not allow it. In 1533, Anne married Henry, and gave birth to Elizabeth. But, like Catherine, Anne was unable to give Henry a son. Henry grew tired of her sharp tongue and quick wit, and decided to destroy her.
