Shipwrecked

Island Life Update Week 2

News

Andrew and Maz

Monday 09 February 2009

It was the first week in paradise, and the newly formed Tigers and Sharks barely had time to adjust to their new surroundings before the first two new arrivals of Shipwrecked 2009 descended on the island...

City boy Andrew from Hampshire and student Mariel (Maz) from the North East spent the first part of their week on Tiger Island. And it wasn't long before the tears started flowing… ex-Shark Hollie (sacrificed at the last beach party) felt left in the shade as the new arrivals soaked up all the attention. Tsk tsk, Tigers, you'd better be careful… she can easily go back in four weeks time.

Across the lagoon, the Sharks were focusing all their attention on building the camp, hoping to impress the new arrivals. But when sun-worshipper Rosie accused MacKenzie of starting projects but not finishing them, she really hit a nerve. As Rosie tried to get a word in edgeways, MacKenzie vociferously defended his pig hut / chicken trap thing (who knows!?) and it all started getting a little heated.

Meanwhile, Nadejah missed Mark BIG TIME. Stuck on Shark island, she couldn't get to grips with how cliquey it was and was struggling to fit in. Unsurprisingly, Mark missed her too, but that didn't stop him having fun as he taught the other islanders his finest Beyonce dance routine. Bootylicious indeed.

As the week continued, all the power of leadership seemed to go straight to new arrival Andrew's head, leaving an embarrassed Maz wondering whether either island will take them. At one point he even accused her of failing her degree… the one she's still doing!

Mariel and Andrew put their minor disagreements aside for the beach party, and had to make a joint decision about which island to go to… In a tense discussion, Maz confessed that her head said play it safe and go with the Tigers. However, when the final announcement came it was hearts all the way, as they chose to become fully fledged SHARKS.

But wait... that wasn't the only bit of drama that happened when the tribes met. Xanthi and MacKenzie became the islands' first thieves as they nicked a loose set of nails lying around the Tiger camp. Now of course, our lips are sealed about next week's episode.

If they weren't, we might just say 'Be careful boys, that's the kind of behaviour that could start an inter-island war...'
